: Kavitha Murugesh
Kavitha was raised at various times by aunts or uncles who temporarily had the means to care for the child.“Until I was 10 years old, I did not know that my parents were dead,” Kavitha said. Her father was killed during the ethnic conflict in 1991, just before she was born. Her mother died not long after from illness, and the often-displaced family took care of her whenever possible. Mr. Gregory was born in a small village near Muttur 75 years ago. A farmer by trade, Mr. Gregory lost his wife in 1984 due to illness, and lived with his then-adult children. In 1990 the family was displaced – for the first of many times – by the conflict that devastated the eastern coast. Learn More
