Meet: Kavitha Murugesh

Place of Birth: Mullaitivu, Sri Lanka

Kavitha was raised at various times by aunts or uncles who temporarily had the means to care for the child.

“Until I was 10 years old, I did not know that my parents were dead,” Kavitha said. Her father was killed during the ethnic conflict in 1991, just before she was born. Her mother died not long after from illness, and the often-displaced family took care of her whenever possible.

After several separations from her remaining family, Kavitha was recommended to Grace Home, where she’s been a student since 2003. She is preparing this year to take the O-Level exams, and hopes to continue her studies and become an accountant.
