Suganthini’s father died when she was a baby, and her infant years were spent relocating from one village to another to avoid the northern conflict. Before coming to Grace Home, Suganthini did not attend school full time, but now enjoys English lessons and would one day like to be a teacher.

Gunawathy Rajaratnam

Mercy Home’s first female resident, Gunawathy Rajaratnam, sought admission when her struggling family was unable to provide for her. Mrs. Rajaratnam was married at age 16 and had two daughters by the time she was 20. The family struggled over the years, and her husband left them in 1982. Mrs. Rajaratnam worked as the warden of a children’s home until she was unable to, and enjoys having the Grace girls around. |
